Avoiding the Move-In Day Blues
Move-in for students joining the UMW community in August 2009 is Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. and will run until noon.
Move-In Day can be a great deal of fun! Whether you’re a first time university student or you’re joining our community as a transfer student, this information will assist you as you move your belongings into your new home.
All students living in Alvey, Virginia, Custis, Mason, Jefferson, and Russell Halls will go directly to their building to check-in. All other students will start by checking in at the Residence Life Office in Marye House.
The most important thing to remember on Move-In Day is DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP! We are here to welcome you and our number one job that day is to help you!
So, let’s move on to…

What can I do to make move-in easier?
- Talk with your roommate(s) to decide what items you will share (television, stereo, refrigerator, phone, etc.).
- Make sure all of your belongings are packed and labeled with your name and room number.
- Bring a hand truck or cart to help move larger items.
- Remember that due to built-in furniture, lofts are not permitted in Russell Hall. They are also not permitted in the Apartments at UMW. New loftable furniture has been provided in Marshall, Bushnell, Virginia and Custis Halls and additional lofts are not permitted in those buildings.
- Dress appropriately and have some cool water with you.
- Bring your sense of humor!
