CONCEPTual Living: Themed Housing Communities
Your Concept...Your Community!

CONCEPTual Living emerged from the Special Interest Housing program and is a dynamic forum for upper-class students to express their individuality and desire for community through theme housing. It This setting facilitates interaction between residential living, academics, and individual/group interests. With the intersection of these three facets, students will be able to address the characteristics of accountability, community responsibility, leadership/followership and life-long learning.

The Office of Residence life strives to supports students’ concepts of an educational environment.  Therefore students will have the option to propose a community by designing their own living environment.  Housing communities are granted accommodation on a yearly basis allowing communities to emerge freely at the interest of the students on campus.

Communities under the CONCEPTual Living Program are:

  • The International Living Center (ILC) community is an environment in which students can develop and share international interests with the university community. The ILC community assists the university in its diversity initiative by spreading global awareness and cultural diversity.
  • The Modern Foreign Language (MFL) community includes four foreign languages:
French, German, Italian, and Spanish. It encourages participation in the language and culture. The community is aided by Language Coordinators for each language. In addition, Language Coordinators for Arabic and Chinese are also housed with the program to include ancient languages.
  • The Physically Active Fitness Friends (PAFF) is a community that focuses on holistic wellness of its members. Members provide peer support and educate the campus community on the link between physical fitness and mental and emotional fitness.

If you are interested in forming your own CONCEPTual Living Community, please complete the application and turn it into the Office of Residence Life by December 1, 2008 to be considered for the 2009-2010 academic year.
