The Bill Hanson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Hanson family, commemorates the life of Dr Bill Hanson, a member of our department until his death in 2006. Deeply committed to social activism, during his over twenty years of teaching at Mary Washington Bill had a profound effect on the College, on his many students, and on the community of Fredericksburg.  We hope to be able to award at least one scholarship each year to deserving students. The award will be based on merit, need, and the student's commitment to peace and social justice.
Donations to the scholarship are most welcome.  They should be marked "Bill Hanson Scholarship" and sent to UMW Foundation, Jepson Alumni Executive Center, 1119 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.
