Sociology Program

The sociology program looks at the factors, especially inequality and discrimination, that shape life in modern America and in the modern world.

The curriculum covers a wide spectrum of subjects and, in addition, provides opportunities for individual study and research into other topics not covered in the curriculum. The program emphasizes both method and theory, and provides ample opportunity for students to integrate these in a variety of first-hand research projects.

The Program Requirements page lists requirements for completing the major in sociology for those declaring a major before the fall of 2008. To learn what changes go into effect in the fall of 2008, open the "Changes in the Sociology major, 2008" page. You'll find a list of our regularly-offered sociology courses on the Course Descriptions page. Those offered in the current and the coming semesters are listed on the Schedule of Courses.
