NEW! Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest 09
Orientation for the MLK Contest was held on December 1 2008. Sixteen parents and students were assisted by staff members providing information about speech organization and delivery, as well as about general contest information. See photos below:





Deadline extended to November 21!
Middle, high school and college students can apply to compete in the 2009 Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest, held from 2 - 4 p.m. January 19, 2009, Dodd Auditorium on the UMW campus. An august panel of judges will evaluate and provide feedback to a select group of presenters. Awards will be presented to the top presenters in each category. Refreshments will be provided. At the end of the contest, guest speaker Gaye Adegbalola will present "Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs." All are invited to this event co-sponsored with UMW Multicultural Center.

Diverse Views, Diverse Communication
A variety of exciting presentations, ranging from a sneak preview of a film about exchange students, “Stumbling Blocks,” to Speaking Center staff panel discussions accepted for presentation at the National Association of Communication Centers will take center stage. Additionally, excerpts of “Best Practices for Infusing Diversity into our Classrooms”* will serve as a springboard for discussions among faculty and students. Join us for various ethnic foods and complimentary Speaking Center gear, as we encourage diverse communication at the Speaking Center!
