Department Scholars 2007-2008

The Department of Theatre & Dance, in conjunction with Friends of the Theatre and the University of Mary Washington Foundation, awards the Albert R. Klein Scholarship, the Fred C. Winer Scholarship, the Alexander W. Holsinger Scholarship, the Keith Belli Scholarship, the Lee Wingate Pappandreou ’40 Scholarship and, together with the Departments of Music and Art—the Nina Bushnell Scholarship and the Polly Updegraff Champ ’61 Scholarship—to outstanding students who have contributed significantly to the life of the Department. Theatre majors, intended majors and students active in the theatre production program who maintain a minimum of a 2.0 overall GPA may apply for a scholarship. We congratulate our scholarship recipients for 2007-08:

Lindsay Easley ’08, painted scenery for the main stage production of Dancing at Lughnasa. Lindsay has been the light board operator and Intellabeam operator for numerous productions. She is a recipient of the Nina G. Bushnell Scholarship.

Talya Rebecca Halpern ’09, is a double major in Theatre and History. She was most recently seen on the main stage as Ruthie and Ned in Bat Boy and Mother Superior in Nunsense. Talya is playing the role of Domina in Forum. Talya is a recipient of the Albert R. Klein Memorial Scholarship.

Sommer Long ’08, stage managed last spring’s production of Dancing at Lughnasa. Sommer was also an assistant stage manager for Nunsense. Sommer is the recipient of the Lee Wingate Pappandreou ’40 Scholarship and the Albert R. Klein Memorial Scholarship.

Caitlin Lucia ’08, performed the role of Maggie in Dancing at Lughnasa. Caitlin was the stage manager for Anton in Show Business and was an assistant stage manager for Love Labor’s Lost. Caitlin is the light board operator for Forum. Caitlin is a recipient of the Nina G. Bushnell Scholarship.

Karen McCullough ’08, has worked in the scene shop building sets for main stage shows since her freshman year. She helped construct Shakespeare’s R&J, Dancing at Lughnasa, Bat Boy, and Nunsense. Karen is the make-up designer for Forum. Karen is a recipient of the Alexander W. Holsinger scholarship.

Reggie Richards- Peelle’ 08, most recently performed Student 2 in Shakespeare’s R&J. He was also Tristano in Company of Wayward Saints. Reggie played bass guitar for Bat Boy and was the featured bass player in Forever Plaid. Reggie is a recipient of the Albert R. Klein Memorial Scholarship

Katie Robinson ’09, was most recently seen on the main stage as Kate in Dancing at Lughnasa. Katie is also the Studio 115 Committee chairperson and was the Producing Director of 365 Days/365 Plays festival. Katie is the assistant to the director for Forum. Katie is a recipient of the Alexander W. Holsinger Scholarship in Theatre.

Shayla Roland ’10, was most recently seen on the mainstage as Daisy in Bat Boy. Shalya was a participating stage manager for the 365 Days/365 Plays festival, and is an assistant stage manager for Forum. Shayla is a recipient of the Albert R. Klein Memorial Scholarship

Kyle Schuster ’08, is an English major currently studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland. He performed Student 4 in Shakespeare’s R&J. He has performed in multiple Studio 115 productions and was accompanist for Studio 115’s production of tick…tick…Boom! Kyle is a recipient of the Alexander W. Holsinger Scholarship in Theatre

Helena Spadacene ’09, was most recently seen on the main stage as a Crew Member in Anton in Show Business. She has also played Katherine in Love Labour’s Lost and Nora in Ah, Wilderness! Helena has also performed in Studio 115 with 365 Days/365 Plays, Spinning into Butter, and Fat Men in Skirts. Helena is playing one half of the Geminae in Forum. Helena is the recipient of the Fred Winer Scholarship.

David Ryan Spry ’08, was most recently seen on the mainstage as Bat Boy in Bat Boy. He has performed as Jinx in Forever Plaid and Jesus in Godspell. David has also served as lighting designer for Proof and Shakespeare’s R&J. David is playing Pseudolus in Forum. David is a recipient of the Albert R. Klein Memorial Scholarship.

Donna Weber ’08, stage managed the mainstage production of Shakespeare’s R&J. Donna was also the Production Stage Manager for 365 Days/ 365 Plays. She is also the Box Office Manager for Klein Theatre. Donna is the recipient of the Keith Belli Scholarship in Theatre.
