A Place of Giving

Click Here for Online GivingAs we move into the next century, state funding for University facilities and programs is not enough to continue the wonderful tradition of academic excellence so notable during Mary Washington’s first 100 years. With only 27 percent of the operating budget coming from state support, private dollars enhance the day-to-day operations, facilities, and programs that define the Mary Washington experience. While continuing public support is paramount in our mission and goals, private support from alumni and friends is clearly the path to the future.

The University of Mary Washington Foundation was established in the early 1970s for this very reason. It operates exclusively to receive and administer private, corporate, and foundation funds that are so important to the academic and residential programs of the University. The Foundation oversees the management and investment of all funds, including endowments.

Through the past 10 years, the UMW Foundation has contributed more than $35 million to Mary Washington programs and projects and has grown total assets from less than $20 million in 1997, to nearly $70 million in 2007. This tremendous growth during the past decade is possible thanks to continuing support from private donors and their dedication to the University and the Foundation.

Supporting the Campaign

The Centennial Campaign is a concentrated, comprehensive effort to secure and steward private support to fund a multitude of needs at Mary Washington. The funds raised through this campaign will support the Fund for Mary Washington, growth in endowment, capital projects, and campus enhancements.

Regardless of the area you choose to support, or the method or manner you choose to make your gift, your support of the Centennial Campaign is vital as Mary Washington looks ahead to the next century with optimism and enthusiasm.
