University of Mary Washington exceeds fund-raising goal ahead of schedule

The University of Mary Washington announced this week that it has exceeded its fund-raising goal for the Centennial Campaign.  The exciting news of the $75.7 million campaign total - $700,000 over goal - comes more than a month ahead of schedule.

William B. Crawley Jr. and Theresa Young Crawley ’77 have served as the National Chairs for the Centennial Campaign.  Sharing the stories of their personal commitments and connections to the University, they led a concentrated, comprehensive effort to inspire, secure, and steward private dollars to support a multitude of needs at Mary Washington.  The funds raised through this campaign support the Fund for Mary Washington, growth in endowment, and capital projects and campus enhancements.

The momentum of Mary Washington’s Centennial Campaign continued to build in early 2009, even in the uncertainty of the current economic climate. The Centennial Campaign has funded, or will fund, a total of 135 new endowed scholarships and an additional 56 endowments for programmatic needs. Nine gifts of $1 million or more and nine commitments for future gifts of $1 million or more have also been received. (Click here to read more about some of these exciting gifts.)

"The Centennial Campaign has brought together the Mary Washington community in a way that demonstrates each individual's pride and overall affection for this wonderful institution," said Associate Vice President for Development Kenneth Steen.  "While we have achieved and exceeded the Centennial Campaign goal ahead of schedule, we are not yet finished.  The Campaign Steering Committee continues to work hard to bring in additional gifts to lay the groundwork for the next century of excellence."
