Dropping Courses - Fall 2008
Dropping Course(s) Before the Semester Begins
Dropping a Course(s) – A student may drop a course(s) any time during the registration period providing that they remain enrolled in at least one class for the semester. The first day of classes for the Fall 2008 semester is Monday, August 25th. If you drop a course(s) before August 25th you will have no record of the course on your transcript.
Course Cancellations – Students who withdraw from all the courses they are registered for the semester before classes begin on August 25th will submit a course cancellation form. A Leave of Absence form should also be submitted to the CGPS Office of the Registrar.

Dropping Course(s) Once the Semester has Begun (August 25th)
Dropping a Course(s) – Once the Semester has begun the student may drop a course or courses as long as the student remains enrolled in at least one class. The following are the specific dates and penalties for our programs.
16 – Week Courses (M.Ed. Only)
Friday, September 12th is the last day to drop a course without a grade of W. This means that the course will not appear on the transcript if the course is dropped by September 12th. If the course is dropped after this date the course will be listed on the transcript with a W indicating that the student began the class and then dropped it. This date refers to dropping a course(s) with the student remaining enrolled in at least one course for the semester at UMW.
Friday, October 24th is the last day to drop a course(s) without receiving an automatic F. This date refers to dropping a course(s) with the student remaining enrolled in at least one course for the semester at UMW.
First 8–Week Courses (BPS, MBA, MMIS)
Wednesday, September 3rd is the last day to drop a course(s) without a grade of W. This means that the course will not appear on the transcript if the course is dropped by September 3rd. If the course is dropped after this date the course will be listed on the transcript with a W indicating that the student began the class and then dropped it.
Wednesday, September 17th is the last day to drop a course(s) without receiving an automatic F. This date refers to dropping a course(s) with the student remaining enrolled in at least one course for the semester at UMW.
Second 8-Week Courses (BPS, MBA, MMIS)
Wednesday, October 29th is the last day to drop a course(s) without a grade of W. This means that the course will not appear on the transcript if the course is dropped by October 29th. If the course is dropped after this date the course will be listed on the transcript with a W indicating that the student began the class and then dropped it.
Tuesday, November 18th is the last day to drop a course(s) without receiving an automatic F. This date refers to dropping a course(s) with the student remaining enrolled in at least one course for the semester at UMW.

Withdrawing from the Semester Once Classes have Begun - August 25th
(Dropping All Courses)
Withdrawing from the Semester (University) indicates that you are dropping all course(s) in which you are enrolled and have not received a final grade. Students who wish to withdraw from all of their course(s) are voluntarily withdrawing from the University for that semester. Students must complete a Withdrawal Form and obtain all required approvals. The forms must be obtained from the Office of the Registrar at the UMW Fredericksburg Campus by calling 540-654-1256. Students who withdraw from the semester should also submit a Leave of Absence form to the Office of the Registrar at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. (Stafford Campus)
16 – Week Courses (M.Ed. Only)
Last day to withdraw from all courses for the Semester (University) is Saturday, December 6th.
First 8-Week Courses (BPS, MBA, MMIS)
Last day to withdraw from all courses for the first 8-week session is Saturday, October 11th.
*** Students may not withdraw from the semester once a grade is received
in a first 8-week session***
Second 8-Week Courses (BPS, MBA, MMIS)
Last day to withdraw from all courses for the second 8-week session is Saturday, December 6th.
