Non-Degree Student Information

Any student who has not been officially admitted into a degree program at the University of Mary Washington is a non-degree student. These students are governed by the same academic regulations as degree-seeking students. To convert to degree-seeking status, a non-degree student must apply for admission to the University and be accepted. All credits earned by a student in any CGPS certificate program or in a non degree status may be applied toward a College degree program if the courses qualify as degree requirements or electives and if the student matriculates into the degree program at least three terms (inclusive of summer) before graduation. Undergraduate students may earn a maximum of 30 undergraduate level credits before applying to a program and a maximum of 11 credits can be taken per semester. Graduate students may take a maximum of 6 graduate level credits before applying to a program.

Non-degree students must complete and submit to the CGPS Office of the Registrar the forms/ documents that are listed below.

Non-degree students wishing to take graduate level education courses (MEd courses) must first meet with Ms. Connie Gallahan, Assistant Dean of Advising Services. To arrange an appointment, please call Ms. Gallahan at (540) 286-8032. Non-degree MEd students must submit only their transcript that shows that they have earned a bachelor's degree.

PAYMENT: Beginning with the Fall 2008 semester, non-degree students will be sent an e-bill for tuition to their UMW email account (Webmail). Please visit the New Student Orientation website for information on how to obtain your login, and remember to check your email account frequently. All credit card payments (MC, AMEX, Discover) must be made online. Neither credit card payments nor cash will be accepted on site at CGPS. Before completing your registration packet, you are advised to check the open course listing on the registrar’s web page. Please note: If you choose not to attend for the semester, you must officially cancel before classes begin or withdraw from the University after classes begin.
