Q. Do I have to register for the UVA courses through the UVA School of Continuing & Professional Studies?
A. Yes, it is your responsibility to register for all courses taken through the UVA School of Continuing & Professional Studies. The course, registration and contact person information can be found at http://www.scps.virginia.edu/certificates/inforsecurity.php
Q. How do I transfer the credit from courses I’ve take at UVA back to UMW?
A. It is your responsibility to request an official transcript to be sent from UVA to UMW upon completion of your coursework.
Q. Do I have to send a transcript after each course I complete?
A. You may send a transcript after each course or after completing all concentration requirements (12 hours).
Q. Do I have to notify UMW when I plan to take a course from UVA?
A. There are three possible answers to this question, depending on the context of your situation.
• If you plan to take a course form UVA during the fall and/or spring semesters and do not plan on taking a course at UMW during the same timeframe, you need to request Study Leave from UMW. Doing so will protect students from the three or more consecutive semester rule, which requires applying for readmission if a student does not enroll in an UMW course for that period of time.
• If you take the UVA courses while you are taking UMW courses, no paperwork is required.
• If you take UVA courses in during the summer semester, no paperwork is required.
Q. How do I request Study Leave?
A. Students must complete a “Request for Study Leave” form and submit it to the Office of Advising and Student services. This form is available in the Advising Office or on our website at http://www.umw.edu/cgps/advising/forms/default.php.
Q. What is the format of the courses at UVA?
A. Currently, the courses at UVA are taught in 8-week sessions (2 sessions per semester). Each course meets one night a week, which covers 50% of the contact time with the remaining 50% taught in an online format.

Q. What are the courses I am allowed to take from UVA?
A. You may choose any 12 credits from the courses offered through the UVA Graduate Management Information Security Certificate. The courses are listed on their web site:
