University of Mary Washington’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies offers a Master's degree and a graduate certificate in Instructional Design and Technology . Our program focuses on teaching and learning through problem-based strategies and new technologies.
This program is designed for students interested in the application of new technologies, learning theory, and research to solve instructional and performance problems. Courses are for students in various teaching and training disciplines who wish to enhance their professional skills in instructional design and development. This program is appropriate for students who are presently working in or who are seeking employment in corporate, government, K12, higher education & non-profit sectors. The competencies addressed in this program reflect the International Society for Technology in Education's National Education Technology Standards for teachers and administrators (ISTE/NETS) and the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). (27 credits; 36 credits for M.Ed.)
The Instructional Design and Technology curriculum prepares students for a wide variety of careers in corporate, government, K12, higher education & non-profit sectors such as:

The Instructional Design and Technology program utilizes current and emerging technologies to meet education and performance improvement goals in schools, communities, government agencies, and corporate settings. Technologies include but are not limited to hand held computers, video, audio, blogs, wikis, podcasting, YouTube, social networking, Virtual Worlds, multimedia development, image editing, Web authoring, and multimedia authoring.

Graduate Certificate Required Courses (15 credits)
This graduate certificate is for students interested in instructional design and the integration and application of technology within learning organizations. This program is offered to all prospective students who wish to pursue further study in new technologies that can be used in instruction. Students are encouraged from public and private education as well as military and corporate environments.

Admissions Requirements
- Submit a completed application for admission, The MEd Application and a non-refundable $50 application fee;
- Submit an official transcript from every college or university attended even if the courses were transferred to another institution;
- Have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university;
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher on undergraduate course work and 3.0 or higher on graduate course work;
- Provide a résumé outlining work experience and education;
- An interview may be required as part of the admission process, but would be initiated by the Admissions Committee;
- Submit two essays (2-3 typed, double-spaced pages each):
- What do you hope to gain from the M.Ed. program? What contributions do you feel you can make to the program as a participant?
- Discuss a current issue in education, why you think it is important, and your stance on it.
