Spring 2010 Two New Courses

The University of Mary Washington is offering two exciting new special education courses
during the fall 2010 semester. The two new courses are EDSE 547 Special Topics in Special Education: Autism (3 credits) and EDSE 539 Characteristics of Students Accessing Adapted Curriculum (3 credits). View the brochure to learn more about these two courses.

 

Brown Bag Lunch

University of Mary Washington and Fredericksburg Parent are sponsoring Dr. Larry Koenig's Smart Discipline training for families, at University Hall, on March 15 from 6:30-8:30.  There is a small section dedicated to working with children with special needs, however the program is focused on working with all children. The cost is $15.00 online, and $20.00 at the door, however seating is limited. View the Brochure.

 

Special Education Teacher Support (SETs) Grant

University of Mary Washington’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies has received a State grant to support special education teachers in Region 3 who are working under provisional or conditional licenses in the 2009-2010 school year. The teachers MUST be admitted to the CGPS masters or licensure program to be eligible. Learn more about the SETs grant.

 

endorsement program in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum

The University of Mary Washington College of Graduate and Professional Studies has received permission from the Virginia Board of Education to offer an endorsement program in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum. This program prepares teachers to instruct students with significant disabilities who are accessing an aligned curriculum that focuses on functional, academic, and community living skills. The new program parallels our current Special Education – General Curriculum program, with the exception of two courses: EDSE 539 Characteristics of Students Accessing Adapted Curriculum and EDSE 541: Goals and practices for Students Accessing Adapted Curriculum. These courses may be taken as part of the endorsement program or for professional development points.
