    Special Education Teacher Support (SETs) Grant

    University of Mary Washington’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies has received a State grant to support special education teachers in Region 3 who are working under provisional or conditional licenses in the 2009-2010 school year. The teachers MUST be admitted to the CGPS masters or licensure program to be eligible. Learn more about the SETs grant.

    BCaBA News

    University of Mary Washington through collaboration with Commonwealth Autism Service offers the BCaBA Course Sequence in a variety of locations via distance learning.  We have offered the sequence in the Shenandoah Valley, SECEP in Norfolk, and there are future plans to offer the Course Sequence in the Lynchburg area. If you are interested in starting up a BCaBA cohort in your area, please contact Jeanie Kline at jkline@umw.edu.   

    endorsement program in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum

    The University of Mary Washington College of Graduate and Professional Studies has received permission from the Virginia Board of Education to offer an endorsement program in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum. This program prepares teachers to instruct students with significant disabilities who are accessing an aligned curriculum that focuses on functional, academic, and community living skills. The new program parallels our current Special Education – General Curriculum program, with the exception of two courses: EDSE 539 Characteristics of Students Accessing Adapted Curriculum and EDSE 541: Goals and practices for Students Accessing Adapted Curriculum. These courses may be taken as part of the endorsement program or for professional development points.

    Daybreak is Returning! The Arc of Rappahannock, Inc. and University of Mary Washington are pleased to announce that Daybreak is Returning!

    We will be running three daybreak events between now and the end of April with plans to start offering daybreak again in the fall.  Our upcoming dates for this semester are: March 21st, April 4th, and April 18th.  Our intent is to have students and faculty from University of Mary Washington’s undergraduate and graduate programs participating in Daybreak.  Daybreak’s new faculty/student coordinators will be Nicole Myers, Ph.D. from University of Mary Washington and Heather DeCou, M.Ed., LPC.  Learn more by visiting UMW's Autism Web page.

     

    New Course TESL 532: Differentiated Instruction for English Language Learners Across the Curriculum

    It is with pleasure the University of Mary Washington in association with the Virginia Department of Education offers TESL 532: Differentiated Instruction for English Language Learners Across the Curriculum for the spring 2009.
