Special Education Teacher Support (SETs) Grant

Fall 2009

University of Mary Washington’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies has received a Virginia State grant to support special education teachers in Region 3 who are working under provisional licenses in the 2009-2010 school year. The teachers MUST have applied or be admitted to the CGPS masters or licensure program to be eligible.

Tuition support for SETs Grant

  • Reimbursement of at least ½ of your tuition per course needed for license in fall 2009 semester.
  • If you drop, withdraw, or fail the course you will reimburse the funds received for the grant.
  • If you receive this reimbursement, you cannot apply for reimbursement under the Virginia Tuition Assistance Program
  • Application is required

A Web site will be provided as part of this SETs Grant in order to:

  • Offer suggestions, answer questions, and provide resources that will help the new teacher deal with daily challenges when working with special education students
  • Weekly participation in Discussion Forum will be required for those receiving reimbursement in order to discuss issues, new findings, and to answer any questions.
  • Register on the Social Network to begin participating.

As part of the SETs Grant you will have an opportunity to attend and present at the Virginia CEC Conference in Virginia Beach on October 17.

      • Registration and travel support will be provided if you desire to attend this excellent conference (http://www.virginiacec.org/virginia_cec_2009.htm for information)
      • Speaker; Pete Wright, well known legal expert (www.wrightslaw.com )
      • If you check the box on the application you will be automatically registered for the conference – you do not need to do it yourself. You may submit mileage, lodging and meals expenses for reimbursement.

In order to receive any of the benefits from this grant, you must complete the application and provide a copy of your provisional or conditional license (if not already provided). Additionally, the teachers must be admitted to the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, University of Mary Washington Master's or licensure program to be eligible.
