THE BASIC STEPS TO OBTAINING A PERIODICAL ARTICLE:

1. Search an index or database to find periodical articles on your subject.  Lists of online databases available through the UMW Libraries can be found at Databases A-Z or Resources by Subject.

2. Check the Full-Text Electronic Periodical/Journal Holdings list to see if the full-text of the periodicals is offered online in any of the databases offered by the UMW Libraries.

3. Check the Library Catalog to determine if the Libraries subscribe to the periodical you want. Be sure to view the holdings information to see if the exact issue you need is available.

4.  If the periodical is available at the Simpson Library, use this form to request that a copy of the article be sent to the Stafford Library for pick up. Your account will be charged 15 cents per page for this service, and will take one to three days. If you prefer, you can go to the Simpson Library and copy it for 10 cents per page.

5.  If the periodical is NOT available either online or in print through the UMW Libraries, you can request that we obtain it for you from another library through interlibrary loan (ILL). Use this form to make the request, and we will order the periodical. The process of ILL may take up to three weeks.

6. If the periodical is NOT available either online or in print through the UMW Libraries, a copy be obtained for you from another library and delivered electronically to your UMW e-mail account. Select the "Create an Account (first-time users)" link to create and account. Electronic ILL delivery is much quicker!
