Campus Accommodations

Once a student has presented appropriate documentation of a disability, he/she may request campus accommodations, which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Sign language interpreters
  • Cued speech transliterators
  • Digitized books
  • Use of text enlarging equipment
  • Use of a Kurzweil reading machine
  • Closed-captioned videos
  • Assistive listening devices
  • Materials in Braille
  • Materials in large print
  • Handicapped Parking Permits
  • Priority registration
  • Reduced course load

JUSTIFICATION FOR REQUEST(S)

Residence Life: Requests for disability-related housing modifications such as air conditioning and double room must be made on the Housing Accommodations Application Form. These forms are available at the Office of Disability Services (GW 203 or at www.umw.edu/disability). Applications are due annually by February 15th returning students and June 10th for freshman and transfer students.

Confidentiality is not protected under ADA upon disclosure of my disability. The Office of Disability Services may discuss my disability with UMW campus personnel (e.g., instructors) on a need-to-know basis while implementing accommodations.

The Office of Disability Services will inform you in writing if requests for accommodations are not approved. Students should discuss exceptions with the Director.
