Delegation is the process of assigning tasks or projects to subordinates while clearly dictating expected outcomes and timeframe for completion.

Advantages of delegating:

  • Frees up time for the supervisor to manage more effectively
  • Allows the employee to develop their own skills, learn from their mistakes; strengthens the organization in the long run
  • Also provides training for new supervisors: gives employees the concrete skills, experience, and the resulting confidence to develop themselves for higher positions
