Gregg Stull, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, Chair of the Department of Music and Professor of Theatre, earned an M.A. (1986) in theatre from the University of Maryland after receiving a B.A. (1982) in dramatic arts from Mary Washington College.

Stull is an expert on funding, policy, and First Amendment issues involving the arts. He consults with arts organizations throughout the country in the area of strategic planning, artistic assessment, and community engagement. He has served as a panelist for the Ohio Arts Council and as an evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts. An expert on social action and the arts, Stull has directed two international displays of the entire AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Stull was named in 2011 one of Princeton Review’s Best 300 Professors. In 2010, Stull received the Grellet C. Simpson Award, which is UMW’s most prestigious annual award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. In addition, he was honored by the class of 2003 with the Mary W. Pinschmidt Award for being the faculty member who had the greatest impact on their lives. In 1995, Stull received the UMW Alumni Association Outstanding Young Faculty Member Award. Stull is the only professor in the institution’s history to win the trifecta of top UMW teaching honors. Stull also has received the Mortar Board Outstanding Faculty Award and has twice been given the UMW Academic Affairs Council Award for Teaching Excellence.
