Korean born, Dr. In Dal Choi, baritone, received a BM degree in voice from Yonsei University, in Seoul where he was also a member of the viola section of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Choi continued his voice training at the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music(Opera), Mozart Conservatorium in Germany, and at Indiana University where he earned a DMA degree.

Dr. Choi has been a soloist for major oratorios including requiems by Brahms, Mozart and Verdi, The Creation by Haydn, Elijah by Mendelssohn, The Messiah by Handel Messiah, Carmina Burana by Orff, s Sacred Service by Bloch, among many others. He has also soloed in the Ninth Symphony of Beethoven.

Dr. Choi has performed major roles in operas including Pagliacci, Fidelio, Tosca, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, Cosi fan Tutte and others. In 2010 he performed the role of Robert in Tchaikovsky’s Iolantha in St. Petersburg, Russia.

He has appeared in hundreds of concerts and recitals in America, Canada, Korea, China and Hong Kong, including recitals at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City and Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Dr. Choi was a music director of the James Madison University Chorus.
He has directed the Festival Chorus for the International Festival sponsored by New York City and United Nations, and the Greater Choral Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

Dr. Choi is a Professor Emeritus of Music at James Madison University. He served as adjunct voice professor at the University of Virginia and the Catholic University of America. Currently he is adjunct voice professor at University of Mary Washington. Among his honors are his selection in 2004 to receive the James Madison Distinguished Faculty Award and Outstanding Cultural Diplomat by the Prime Minister of The Republic of Korea. Dr. Choi is a past president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Virginia Chapter. His former students perform at major opera houses in Europe, Asia, South America and North America including the Metropolitan Opera House.
