Location of Events
The 2006 Faculty Academy will be held in Combs Hall on the Fredericksburg campus of the University of Mary Washington. UMW is a state-assisted, coeducational institution of higher education that includes both a College of Arts and Sciences (Mary Washington College) and a College of Graduate and Professional Studies (in Stafford County). Founded in 1908, it has evolved from a teacher's college, to a branch of the University of Virginia, to what it is today: one of America's outstanding institutions of liberal and professional learning.
Directions to Combs Hall, University of Mary Washington
Directions from I-95:
Mary Washington College is located in Fredericksburg, Va, 50 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 50 miles north of Richmond, Va. To reach the campus from Interstate 95, take Exit 130-A. Follow Route 3 East business 1.5 miles to the campus. At the traffic light at College Ave. turn left, and proceed to the College gates, located at the next traffic light. Combs Hall is on your right as you drive through the gates.
From US 1:
When you see the Park and Shop shopping center, turn left (if you are headed south) or right (if you are headed north) onto College Ave. and proceed to the College gates, located at the next traffic light. Combs Hall is on your right as you drive through the gates.
From downtown Historic Fredericksburg or the train station:
From Caroline St. (the main street of town), go west (left) on Amelia St. In seven blocks you will reach Washington Ave. You cannot continue straight ahead; jog left for one block, then turn right (west) on William St. (State Route 3). Continue on William St. for several blocks till you reach College Ave. Turn right (north) onto College Avenue. Proceed to the College gates located at the next traffic light. Combs Hall is on your right as you drive through the gates.
Parking:
Limited two-hour visitor parking is located just inside the gates. Additional parking may be found on residential streets surrounding the College. However, the following areas are restricted to CITY parking permit only (you will be ticketed in these areas):
- 1100 block of Sunken Road, east side of road between Cornell Street and Mortimer Avenue
- 900 block of Monroe Street, north side of road between Franklin Street and Sunken Road
- 1200 block of Brent Street, both sides of road between Colony Street and College Avenue
- 1200 block of Parcell Street, both sides of road between Augustine and College Avenues
- 1300 block of Hanover Street, north side of road between College Avenue and Bright Street
- 800 block of Adams Street, both sides of road between Hanover Street and William Street
