Ernest Ackermann

Professor of Computer Science

Ernest C. Ackermann, Professor of Computer Science, earned a Ph.D. (1974) and M.A. (1968) in mathematics from Penn State University, after having received a B.A. (1967) in mathematics from Montclair State College. A member of the Association for Computing Machinery, Dr. Ackermann is an expert on the Internet, the World Wide Web and Unix. He has presented several workshops on the use of the Internet to students, faculty and other professional organizations. His tutorials and Web pages are referenced from Web sites throughout the world, and he has written several books on Unix, the Internet and the World Wide Web.


Ernest Ackermann has taught at UMW for 26 years.

Dr. Ackermann's textbooks are used by several hundred schools, colleges and universities. His recent works include Searching and Researching on the Internet and the World Wide Web, 4th Edition (2004) and Learning to Use the Internet and the World Wide Web With Revitalized URLs (2004). Dr. Ackermann has more than 20 years of experience in designing, implementing and maintaining the computer systems, Internet services and Web sites at the University of Mary Washington and other locations.
