Suzanne Houff

Suzanne G. Houff, Associate Professor of Education, earned a Ph.D. in urban services/curriculum and instruction cognate (1997) from Old Dominion University, an EDS in administration and supervision (1990) from George Washington University, an M.Ed. in library and media (1980) from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.S. in elementary education (1976) from Longwood College. She is a knowledgeable source about classroom management, children’s literature and literacy. She teaches graduate courses about such topics as language and literacy across the curriculum, language and literacy development, teaching and development of the learner, goals and practices in elementary education, early language and literacy development, and educational research.
Her articles about preparing teachers in the development of a positive classroom climate and about language arts workshops for students have been published in The Teacher Educators Journal, Teacher Librarian and Virginia English Bulletin. She serves on the statewide book selection committee for Virginia Young Readers. A member of the Virginia State Reading Association, she is past president of the association’s Virginia College Reading Educators Council. She also is a member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, International Reading Association and the Association of Teacher Educators in Virginia.
