UMW Finance Departments
The offices handling the financial management of the University strive to effectively manage the University's financial resources so as to maximize support for the University community and provide proper stewardship of public assets.
Many departments contribute to the financial management of the University of Mary Washington. The Assistant Vice President for Finance, Allyson P. Moerman, manages the following departments: Accounting, Accounts Payable , Cashiering, Payroll, Miscellaneous Accounts Receivable, Student Accounts, and Training and System Support. An additional department in this area is Purchasing .
The Finance Departments have responsibility for all financial transactions and reporting for the University, James Monroe Museum and the Gari Melchers Home and Studio .
Appropriate services and assistance are provided to members of the University community (faculty, staff and students) in an accurate and efficient manner, utilizing technical resources available to the University. Emphasis is placed on customer service and personal integrity which, along with our commitment to the policies, procedures and laws of the Commonwealth, create an environment leading to the successful operation of the University. This is strongly reflected in the Code of Ethics adopted by the Finance Departments.
The Finance Department operates in accordance with the Virginia Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedure (CAPP) Manual and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB ). The University and Museums are audited once a year by the Auditor of Public Accounts (APA) and the Virginia Department of Accounts (DOA) . The Finance Department also handles Grant Management reporting, including all Federal, State, local and private funding received by the University.
