Foundation Real Estate

Properties are acquired by the University of Mary Washington Foundation for various reasons. Some are for the current or future use and benefit of students, faculty, and staff. They may be leased back to the University (examples include the University Apartments and houses on College Avenue). Other properties are acquired and then sold to help fund special projects or endowments.

College Avenue House
The house at the corner of William Street and College Avenue is owned by the UMW Foundation, but is leased to the University for faculty offices.

An independent board of directors controls the acquisition, management, and sale of Foundation properties. Currently, the Foundation portfolio includes houses (residential and office), lots, commericial and retail properities, and undeveloped land including woodlands, farms, and waterfront property.
