brayerLinocut Printmaking
Sunday, December 6, 2-5 pm
Grades 8-12 and adults
Instructor:  Cathy Stikes

Printmaking is the process of making art by printing on paper. Linocut is a printmaking technique that involves carving away at linoleum to make a relief surface. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller (called a brayer) and then pressed into paper.  The linoleum surface (or matrix) can be used over and over again and with different colors to create multiple prints or impressions.

It's a simple technique that creates beautiful art! Students will be given the opportunity to create numerous prints suitable for gift giving.

Cost:  $20/members; $25 non-members.  To register, please contact Education Coordinator Michelle Dolby at 540-654-1851.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint a picture that tells a story using your own life as inspiration?

Norman Rockwell based many of his paintings from photos he took of models, family members and friends.  He also photographed places and props to use in his paintings.

Students will learn to create a narrative composition from their own lives using personal photos of family members, friends, pets and more.    Ms. Herndon will lead a tour and discussion of Norman Rockwell's paintings in the special exhibition, "Picturing Health:  Norman Rockwell and the Art of Illustration."   Students should bring at least 10 photos to use as a resource.    Cost:  $20/members; $25 non-members.  To register, please call Education Coordinator Michelle Dolby at 540/654-1851.
