The University of Mary Washington Parents Council

The University of Mary Washington Parents Council is a voluntary advisory committee dedicated to helping Mary Washington meet the educational and developmental needs of students.  It also provides parents with the opportunity to be involved in their child's education and to seek information and support from a variety of sources.

Members of the Parents Council help to welcome families of new freshman and transfer students during Preview events in July, and meet each September during Family Weekend.

The goals of the Parents Council include:

  • Helping the University attract new students by distributing information about Mary Washington to local high schools, notifying, and assisting Admissions staff at college fairs in their hometowns.
  • Encouraging employers to recruit current UMW students as interns and/or providing career opportunities for recent graduates.
  • Providing financial support to help the University continue the educational programs that make Mary Washington known as "one of the best liberal arts universities in Virginia."
