Scholarships

A scholarship is one of the greatest gifts a student, and therefore the University, can receive.

The University of Mary Washington is committed to providing a quality liberal arts education to students of promise at a cost that is within their reach. Scholarships make this goal possible by supporting both academically gifted students of merit and those students with demonstrated financial need.

The University of Mary Washington Foundation oversees the establishment and investment of all scholarship funds. The Office of Financial Aid coordinates the application and selection process for scholarship recipients.

Currently, UMW has available nearly 200 endowed scholarships and awards, including six full-ride Washington Scholarships.

You have an opportunity to make a significant difference. Consider establishing a scholarship to personalize your commitment to Mary Washington and to provide support to deserving students.

Scholarship Facts:

  • Every year, there is more than $1.3 million in demonstrated unmet financial need for UMW students.
  • The average number of students receiving student loans has increased by 34 percent.
  • Fifty-seven percent of UMW students receive some form of financial aid. Endowed scholarships are a vital tool in the University's ability to attract and retain the best and brightest students.
  • Mary Washington is ranked as one of the nation's best values in undergraduate higher education due to its unique combination of affordability and quality. Scholarship funding makes this ranking possible.
