WAYS TO FUND A SCHOLARSHIP

Cash gifts include cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

Appreciated Stocks or Bonds make great gifts because they benefit both you and the University. In addition to receiving a full tax deduction for the market value, you may also avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation.

You can also utilize several different Planned Gift vehicles to endow a scholarship including Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts and bequests. We can create a customized plan to allow you to endow a scholarship and receive a specified annuity for life.

Establishing A Scholarship

As an individual, or a representative of a business or community organization, you can establish an endowed scholarship fund at Mary Washington with a gift of $20,000 or more. Make a one-time gift, or fulfill the commitment over a period of up to five years.

You also can specify how the scholarship will be titled. Establish it in your name, or in the name of a business or an organization you represent. You may even choose to name the scholarship to honor or in memory of a friend, beloved family member or respected professor.

An UMW Foundation staff member will work with you and/or your advisors to establish the scholarship and to outline criteria for the selection of recipients.

INVEST IN MARY WASHINGTON

When you endow a scholarship, you make an investment that impacts generations of students. Your initial gift is carefully invested and, while the principal remains intact, a portion of the interest it earns funds the scholarship in perpetuity.
