The Potency of the Pill picture of pills

In 1999, The Economist listed "the Pill" as the greatest scientific and technological advancement of the twentieth century.1 The oral contraceptive was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States in 1960. From that time on, the Pill gained wide usage and impacted the lives of women in the U.S. The purpose of this site is to explore the history of contraceptives and the development of the Pill as well as to investigate its effect on American culture and its impact on the future.

"No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consiously whether she will or will not be a mother."
-Margaret Sanger in Parade, December 1, 1963
