Many times during the development of American technology, Mother Nature has proven to be the best engineer of all. The invention of Velcro is no exception. Velcro, a two-sided fastener originally designed by nature and further developed by George de Mestral, is a unique product that has impacted our lives since 1957.
This website has been made possible through Jeffrey McClurken's American Technology and Culture class at Mary Washington College. This site is aimed to inform the general public how a little nuisance of nature has changed into a form of attachment used almost daily by individuals around the world. As you navigate through these pages, you will find many interesting facts, pictures, and resources devoted to the invention of and importance of Velcro. For more information as well as endnotes, please see the Works Cited page for more references on this topic. |
