Planning on studying abroad? It's easier than you think it is!
Don't be deterred by the Myths of studying abroad!
Myth #1: "I won't graduate on time if I study abroad."
With advance planning, students can study abroad for an entire year and still graduate on time! The courses you take abroad can be approved to transfer toward your overall credits at UMW. If a semester or year long program is not for you, there are short-term summer programs, too.
Myth #2: "You need to know a foreign language to study abroad."
Not true! First of all, there are many English speaking countries to which you can go. If you don't speak a foreign language or don't want to go to an English speaking country, there are programs where the language of instruction is English. Some programs require you to take courses in the language of the host country, while taking other coursework in English.
Myth #3: "Studying abroad is too expensive."
UMW offers four exchange programs, meaning you pay UMW tuition to study abroad. There are other affordable study abroad programs. You may even find some programs that are cheaper than paying UMW tuition! Plus, you can apply for scholarships offered by IAS.
