International Student Identification Card
UMW students participating in study abroad are required to obtain the International Student Identification Card (ISIC). the ISIC card is included on UMW programs. The cost of the ISIC is minimual and it can be purchased through IAS. Passport-size photographs can be taken in IAS. The cost of photos is included in UMW programs and students are assessed $5 if they are participating on non-UMW programs.
The ISIC provides basic accident and emergency medical coverage while abroad. In addition to emergency medical evacuation coverage and accident insurance, ISIC can provide many student discounts and benefits, including a 24-hour, toll free Help Line. Details on ISIC benefits are outlined in the ISIC handbook, which is distributed upon purchase of the card. The student should be careful to check that the card will be valid for the full duration of the program.
The insurance provided by this card is not comprehensive and covers only the time during which the student is actually abroad. By no means should it be considered a comprehensive or primary insurance coverage, and the student must have a primary health care plan for which ISIC coverage will serve as a supplement.
