Overseas Insurance Coverage
Comprehensive medical insurance coverage is required of all students participating in study abroad. International health insurance coverage is provided on UMW programs. Refunds are not given for dual coverage. Students participating on non-UMW programs are required to show proof of international health coverage. This may or may not be included on your program. Students who do not show proof of international health coverage will automatically be enrolled in the UMW program. This will cost approximately $120-200 depending on program length. All coverage should offset expenses of unexpected emergency evacuation and repatriation of mortal remains. Medical insurance provided by the International Student Identification Card is supplemental. Riders to home policies will protect against the costs of hospitalization and physician care in the event of sickness, accident, disability, and death resulting there from. Furthermore, this coverage should offset expenses of unexpected emergency evacuation, repatriation of mortal remains, trip cancellation, or loss of property. Students are solely responsible for obtaining this insurance. While abroad, students should carry insurance policy numbers, and medical information concerning allergies, medications, blood type, immunization history, eyeglasses and other prescriptions. For any chronic medical condition, it is advisable to wear a medic alert bracelet. A good place to keep this information is with the passport.
