Archives Week in Virginia recognizes those institutions and individuals that help preserve and make accessible the records of our actions as citizens, businesses, religious groups, government and society.
This year's celebration theme, "In Archives We Trust: Preserving Virginia History for Her People" reflects the role of archivists in preserving the historical record and serving as the guardians of the Commonwealth’s rich history and cultural heritage.

GREAT BOOK GIVEAWAY
Week of October 3, 2005
Throughout the week of October 3rd, Simpson Library will be offering to the public books that have recently been withdrawn from the Library's collection. We are also including donations of personal books from Library staff members and private individuals.
Materials are withdrawn from the Library's collection only after careful review by the Collection Development Librarian, the Library's area specialists, and the faculty within the particular discipline. Many matters are taken into consideration during this review; for example, physical condition, items replaced by fresher copies, multiple copies, and items determined by subject specialists and faculty to be out-of-date or superceded by more current information.
Beginning early Monday morning the book trucks will be located along the front wall of the Library--please come by and browse!

Being American After 9-11 Exhibit
Entries from the student arts contest held in conjunction with the University’s international conference, The Arrogance of Power: Being American After 9-11 are currently on display at Simpson Library. All entered works explored the theme of American identity after the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon buildings on September 11, 2001. The first floor showcases all of the entries submitted including paintings, sculpture, music, poems, and short stories. The three winning entries are displayed in a separate case on the first floor.
The exhibit continues on the second floor where it divides into two themes: “National Remembrances” and “Personal Reflections.” The displays examine how a nation collectively remembers a tragedy and how individuals cope privately. Many of the materials displayed are from the Michael Mello Collection currently being processed by the Special Collections Department.
The exhibit will run from April 1, 2005 through August 20, 2005.

All Library materials checked out to students are due on or before April 30, 2005
Materials not returned as of Monday, May 2 will be considered lost. A $75.00 charge, plus a $10.00 processing fee and any applicable late fees, will be posted at The Office of Student Accounts in George Washington Hall for each item that is not returned. If a billed item is returned within six months, the $75.00 charge will be waived, but the processing fee and late charges will stand.
Check at the Circulation Desk to make certain your account is clear. Once an item is posted to your student account, it will no longer show on your online Library account.
Because Interlibrary Loan materials do not belong to this Library, they will not appear on your online Library account. To be certain that you have returned all ILL material, contact cbailey@umw.edu.
