Monday, July 16 2007

Monday, July 9 2007

Simpson Library will be experiencing a number of disruptions of service for the next six or seven weeks because of the re-carpeting of the library. The installation will occur one floor at a time. The stacks will be shrink wrapped to protect the books and shelving from the fine dust created by the removal of the 20-year-old carpet. Access to the shrink-wrapped portions of the collection will be very limited.

Currently the Reference Desk, Circulation Desk, as well as the second and third floors of the collection are open. The periodicals, microfilm, microfiche, reference books and computers on the first floor are not accessible at this time.

Please check back regularly. As the work progresses this page will be updated.

book with bookwormGreat Book Giveaway

Throughout the week of March 26th, UMW Libraries will be offering to the public books that have recently been withdrawn from the Libraries' collections. We are also including donations of personal books from Library staff members and private individuals.

Materials are withdrawn from the Libraries' collections only after careful review by the Collection Development Librarian, the subject specialists, and the faculty within the particular discipline. Many matters are taken into consideration during this review; for example, physical condition, items replaced by fresher copies, multiple copies and items determined by subject specialists and faculty to be out-of-date or superceded by more current information.

Beginning early Monday morning, book trucks will be located along the front wall of the Simpson Library. At the CGPS Stafford Library, book trucks will be located near the Library's front doors during opening hours. Please come by and browse!
