Search the UMW Libraries Catalog from your Browser's Search Bar

The University of Mary Washington Libraries are proud to offer an extension for the Mozilla Firefox browser that will allow users to search the UMW Libraries Catalog through the Firefox Search Engine Bar. Internet Explorer 7 users can also add the UMW Libraries Catalog to their Search Bar.

Firefox users can install an extension that will allow them to perform a Keyword Search of the UMW Libraries Catalog from the Firefox Search Engine Bar. The Search Bar is located in the in the upper right hand corner of the browser.

To install and use the extension:

1. Click Here to download the extension

2. When the Add Search Engine pop-up window opens, check the checkbox next to "Start using it right away" and click on the "Add" button.

You should now see "UMW Libraries Keyword Search " appear in light grey in the Search Engine Box.

3. You can now perform a Keyword Search of the UMW Libraries Catalog directly from your Search Engine Bar by typing in your search terms and clicking on the glass iconbutton.

Internet Explorer 7 Search Bar

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) users can also perform a Keyword Search of the UMW Libraries Catalog from the Internet Explorer Search Bar. The Search Bar in IE7 is located to the right of the Address Bar.Screenshot of IE7 Search Bar.

To add the UMW Libraries Catalog to the Search Bar in IE7:

1. Click on the triangle in the search bar to open the Search Bar menu and select "Find More Providers...."Screenshot of search bar menu with

2. When the Add Search Providers to Internet Explorer 7 page opens,

    • Paste the following URL into Step 3 of the Create Your Own box: http://www.library.umw.edu/cgi-bin/gw/chameleon?host=199.111.91.10%2b3000%2bDEFAULT&search=KEYWORD&function=INITREQ&SourceScreen=INITREQ&skin=umwtables&conf=.%2fchameleon.conf&lng=en&itemu1=1035&u1=1035&t1=TEST&elementcount=1&pos=1&prevpos=1&rootsearch=KEYWORD&beginsrch=1&
    • Enter "UMW Libraries Keyword Search " into Step 4 of the Create Your Own box.
    • Click on the "Install" button.

3. When a pop-up window opens asking "Do you want to add the following Search Provider to Internet Explorer?", click on the "Add Provider" button.

You should now see the UMW Libraries Keyword Search listed in the Search Bar menu.

4. By clicking on "UMW Libraries Catalog" from the Search Bar menu, you are selecting the Catalog as the engine for your searches. You should see "UMW Libraries Catalog" appear in light grey in the Search Bar when the Catalog is selected.

5. When the Catalog is selected, you can perform a Keyword Search of the UMW Libraries Catalog directly from your Search Bar by typing in your search terms and clicking on the Screenshot of magnifying glass button. button.
