ShowMe! FAQ
What is ShowmE!?
Our ShowMe! videos are intended to guide researchers step-by-step through using library resources to find articles, books, and other information. Each video is created by a UMW Libraries' librarian and is available in a Flash format with audio for easy viewing, 24/7, on the web. ShowMe! videos are found throughout the UMW Libraries' website, marked with the
icon. You can also get to all of the ShowMe! videos via the ShowMe! home page at www.umw.edu/showme.
How do I play a ShowMe! video?
Each ShowMe! video is available in an SWF (Flash) format with audio and is intended to be viewed within an internet browser window. When you click on the link for a ShowMe! video, the video should run in a new window or tab in your browser. You will need Macromedia/Adobe Flash Player 7.0 or higher installed on your computer to view these videos. To download Flash Player, please see the Adobe Flash Player Download Center. Make sure that you have sound or speakers enabled and the volume turned up so that you can hear the audio.
Why won't the videos play?
If you have pop-ups blocked on your computer, the ShowMe! videos may not open or play. Your computer might also be set to block or warn you about ActiveX controls, and this may cause the videos not to open or play. If you see the video open in a new window or tab, but the video does not play, try clicking twice on the
(Play button) found in the video controls menu. If you are having trouble viewing the ShowMe! videos, please contact the UMW Help Desk at 540-654-2255.
What if I can't hear, don't have, or don't want sound?
Many of our newer ShowMe! videos include captions of what the speaker in the video is saying. When captioning is available for a video, you will see a
at the lower right-hand corner of the video. Click on the
to make the captions for that video visible.
