About the James Monroe Papers Project
The Papers of James Monroe is a documentary editing project based at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The goal of the project is to publish a scholarly eight-volume collection of selected letters and papers documenting the life and career of the fifth president of the United States. Work on the Monroe Papers began in 1989, and to date the project has published two volumes with a third forthcoming in early 2009. The Papers of James Monroe are published by Greenwood Press. In addition to the eight-volume collection of letters and papers, the Monroe Papers has also undertaken several other publications, most notably, the two-volume Comprehensive Catalogue of the Correspondence and Papers of James Monroe, published by Greenwood in 2001.
