Mary Bortnyk Rigsby, Professor of English, earned a Ph.D. (1991) and an M.A. (1985) in literature, after having received a B.A. (1976) in English from Temple University. Dr. Rigsby is an expert in the area of 19th-century American literature, with a particular emphasis on women writers and feminist criticism. Her other areas of expertise include literary theory, the teaching of writing and faculty development in teaching. Dr. Rigsby is a member of the Modern Language Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. She is an Advanced Placement faculty consultant and an expert on the evaluation of student writing.
