Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Celebration Week
The MLK in U: His Legacy, Your Life, Our Community
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a priceless educator who, during his lifetime, forever changed his community and the world. He urged people to reject the normalcy of hatred and ignorance and to experience a radical social transformation that embraces equality and respect, regardless of all perceived differences and divisions. Dr. King taught the world the importance of knowing and studying the cultural traditions of one’s ancestors, but more importantly he taught the value of using this knowledge to envision and create a better foundation for our future. Please join the University of Mary Washington, The James Farmer Multicultural Center, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Planning Committee as we celebrate Dr. King. Dare to accept the challenges he set forth – to continue his legacy in our own personal lives as we embrace tolerance, diversity, and acceptance; to fight for the equality of all humankind and serve our communities; and to impact the entire world for the better. We invite you to journey and reflect with us during this celebration of how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has affected you in your life, your community, and your future.
