The Last Lecture Series
- Have you ever wondered what your professor might say if this were his or her last lecture?
- Have you ever taken a course from a faculty member that you thought was an inspirational teacher?
- Have you ever taken a course from a faculty member that you wished you had the opportunity to get to know better as a person?
- Is there a faculty member who has a passion for something that makes you want to hear more?
Then take the time to nominate this fabulous faculty member for the Last Lecture Series award!
This year, the James Farmer Multicultural Center would like to introduce the “Last Lecture” Series to the University of Mary Washington’s campus. The “Last Lecture” Series is an opportunity for students to nominate a faculty member to present a lecture as if it where the last one they would ever give. This will be an opportunity for that faculty member to provide words of wisdom, reflection, and inspiration. The “Last Lecture” Series is one way that the James Farmer Multicultural Center wishes to embrace the importance of diversity of opinion.
Students will be given the opportunity to nominate a faculty member for this award by completing a recommendation application. The faculty member will then be selected by a committee and asked to present UMW’s first “Last Lecture”. This is a wonderful opportunity for UMW students to share the inspiration they have received from our faculty with the entire University of Mary Washington and the Fredericksburg community.
Applications will be accepted throughout the entire 2009-2010 academic year and need to be submitted to Courtney Chapman at cchapma2@umw.edu or to the James Farmer Multicultural Center in Lee Hall, 211. A committee comprised of students, faculty, and staff will review all applications and send invitations to those professors who are selected to give their “Last Lecture.”
This year's Last Lecture will occur in Spring 2010. Lecture dates and times are subject to availability.
