Michael Goodchild, one of the world’s leading authorities in Geographic Information Science, will give lectures at the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday, October 30 and Wednesday, October 31.
A lecture, “The Spatial Web: Visions For A Geospatially Enabled Future,” will be presented at the Stafford campus in University Hall at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, North Building, at 6 p.m. October 30. The second talk, “Responding Better: GIS for Emergency Management,” will take place at 4 p.m. on October 31 on the Fredericksburg campus in the Jepson Science Center, Room 100. Both events are free and open to the public.
A professor of geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. Goodchild recently received the 2007 Priz Vautrin Lud, the world’s highest award that can be bestowed on a geographer. He is director of the Center for Spatial Studies and of the Center for Spatially Integrated Social Science at UCSB and is considered a pioneer of geospatial science. He currently serves on the editorial boards of 10 journals and book series and has published over 400 journal articles and 15 books.
