The Department of Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Mary Washington will host its first World Language Day on Wednesday, March 19 in Woodard Campus Center, Great Hall from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is open to high schools in the Fredericksburg area.
This event, created to celebrate the United Nations’ declaration of 2008 as the International Year of Languages, provides opportunities for local high school students to become more connected with foreign languages. Activities will center around French, German, and Spanish and will include competitions such as spelling bees and poetry recitations. Poster exhibitions and video screenings also will be presented as well as a mini-class in Italian.
