The University of Mary Washington Galleries will host an Art Auction and Gala featuring works by local and regional artists Thursday, June 2.
With the theme “Past, Present and Future Histories,” the gala will celebrate the UMW Galleries’ efforts to preserve its permanent collection and develop exhibits. The event will take place in the Ridderhof Martin Gallery on the Fredericksburg Campus from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $50 each and include entrance and light refreshments. A free preview reception will take place Thursday, May 26, from 5-7 p.m.
With 16 total pieces of artwork, the auction collection includes works by six faculty members: Joseph DiBella, Jon McMillan, Jason Robinson, Rosemary Jesionowski, Jake Urbanski and Carole Garmon. One UMW staff member, Shawn Young, and one UMW alumnus, Travis Head, also donated works. The remaining artists are local to Fredericksburg and Richmond. Artworks consist of a variety of media including paintings, ceramic vessels, sculpture and photography.
Consistent with the theme, proceeds from the auction will benefit the UMW Galleries’ past, present and future in terms of its permanent collection, gallery programming and digital presence. Specifically, funds raised will be invested flat file storage for the permanent collection, booking of guest lectures and camera equipment to digitize the permanent collection and make it available online.
