The University of Mary Washington Debate Team will host a public debate the topic of presidential candidates’ transparency in respect to health and financial information on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Four members of UMW’s Debate Team will debate the resolution, “It is more important for presidential candidates to release their personal health information than their personal financial information.” UMW students John Huebler, Parker Coon, Haley Nystrom and Gabriel Lewis will open the debate with brief introductory speeches. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice opinions before the debaters present final rebuttals. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. in Monroe Hall, Room 346 on the Fredericksburg campus.
The debate is one of a series sponsored throughout the academic year by the UMW Public Debate Program. Later in the week, the UMW Debate Team will host its own intercollegiate tournament with participants from Virginia, Florida, Washington, Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
