The Mary Washington community came together on March 20 to donate funds for the University’s students and programs. After all online and offline gifts were tallied, results of UMW’s second Mary Wash Giving Day exceeded preliminary figures for donors and dollars.
All told, 2,418 donors made 2,987 gifts on Giving Day. Their gifts totaled $449,631 for areas across the University, including the Fund for Mary Washington, UMW Athletics, academic departments, arts and culture, and the three Colleges. The day’s original goal was 1,908 gifts in honor of the University’s founding year.
An infographic released by the Office of Annual Giving highlights these Giving Day outcomes and more:
- The $449,631 donated represents a 107 percent increase over last year’s Giving Day.
- The 2,418 donors represent a 122 percent increase over last year’s Giving Day.
- Mary Washington alumni from 75 classes made Giving Day gifts, beginning with the Class of 1942.
- 521 graduates of the last 10 years made gifts on Giving Day.
- 727 people made their first-ever gift to Mary Washington on Giving Day.
- Donors from 45 states and 10 countries donated on Giving Day.
