Board to Name Tennis Complex for Former UMW Athletic Director

Alumni Return to UMW for Homecoming

  Hundreds of alumni returned to the University of Mary Washington the weekend of Saturday, Oct. 26 for Homecoming. For the first time in more than 15 years, students and alumni tailgated at the Battleground Athletic Complex on Saturday. On Saturday, the field hockey team beat Capital Athletic Conference rivals Frostburg State University 11 to 2 and the men’s soccer team defeated Frostburg 2 to zero. The women’s soccer team lost a tough game to the Bobcats 3 to 1. The weekend also included the five-year reunion for the Class of 2008, a concert by Grouplove in the Anderson Center, and a gathering in the alumni tent at the Battleground Athletic Complex. … [Read more...]

UMW Athletics Wins Richard C. Cook CAC All-Sports Award for First Time Since 2005

UMW Field Hockey Team Headed to NCAA Final Four

Junior Caitlin Baker scored the eventual game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to lead the third-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Lynchburg College in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 11. “We are excited about this opportunity to go to the final four,” said second-year UMW head coach Lindsey Elliott. “The girls have worked hard all season and deserve this chance to play for the national championship!” UMW held a 14-12 shot advantage, and also led in penalty corners, 10-7. UMW senior goalie Claire Gianelle made five saves for the Eagles, senior Lisa Charney added two defensive saves and freshman Hunter Causey prevented another with a defensive save. The Eagles advance to the NCAA national semifinals for the second time, as UMW advanced to the national championship game in 1993. The Eagles will face second-ranked Montclair State University on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Geneva, N.Y., with a 2 p.m. … [Read more...]
