Hyatt Place Fredericksburg To Open in Eagle Village

The Hyatt Place Fredericksburg will open on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in the Eagle Village mixed-use development located across from the University of Mary Washington’s Fredericksburg campus. The hotel, built by the UMW Foundation, is the first boutique hotel of its kind serving the university, downtown Fredericksburg and the Mary Washington Health System, according to Jim Fournier, general manager of the hotel. “Hyatt Place Fredericksburg at Mary Washington is located in a very desirable and historic area, and we’re looking forward to creating a positive travel experience for each and every guest that walks through our doors,” Fournier said. The 93-room, five-story hotel blends historical and modern elements, and features 89 studios and three executive suites and one presidential suite. UMW Foundation Marks Start of Hotel Construction

The University of Mary Washington Foundation commemorated the beginning of construction on the five-story Hyatt Place hotel at a groundbreaking ceremony in the Eagle Village mixed-use development on Friday, September 21. The foundation also celebrated the recent completion of Eagle Village Drive, a pedestrian and vehicular connection between the development and Mary Washington Hospital. “Eagle Village, from day one, has always represented the very essence of urban renewal and economic revitalization and how a university and a community can come together to initiate positive change in a neighborhood,” Jeff Rountree, CEO of the UMW Foundation, told a group of more than 100 gathered for the event. “The addition of this connector drive and a first-class hotel are just the latest pieces in this rather large and complex development puzzle.” Pamela J. Hyatt Place Construction Underway

Preparation of the construction site and fencing began the week of July 9 in the vacant retail space between the University of Mary Washington Foundation’s Eagle Village complex and Giant Food, to allow for construction of the new Hyatt Place hotel. The hotel will be located in the second phase of the Eagle Village mixed-use development adjacent to UMW’s Fredericksburg campus. The work started the third week of July and will continue through mid August. During that period, lanes may be re-routed around the building on a day-to-day basis, but no major roadway closures are expected, according to Jeff Rountree, chief executive officer for the UMW Foundation. The five-story, 66,500-square-foot hotel is scheduled to open its doors by fall 2013. The hotel will include 93 studio rooms or suites, several meeting and conference rooms for public rent and 24-hour food and beverage service for guests. UMW Foundation Hotel, First to Benefit from State Program

A five-story Hyatt Place hotel slated for construction next month by the University of Mary Washington Foundation will be the first to benefit from the new Virginia Tourism Development Financing project, an incentive program adopted by the Virginia General Assembly in 2011. The announcement was made today from the office of Gov. Bob McDonnell. “Virginia’s tourism industry provides thousands of good, quality jobs across the state, which is why I have made tourism a key part of my economic development initiatives,” said Gov. Plans are moving forward for the University of Mary Washington Foundation’s construction of a $14 million-plus select-service hotel in the second phase of the Eagle Village mixed-use development across U.S. 1 from the Fredericksburg campus of the University of Mary Washington. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012. The five-story hotel, to be located between Giant Food and the Eagle Village Executive Offices, will feature 93 studio rooms or suites, several meeting and conference rooms for public use, and a 24-hour food and beverage service for guests. The 66,500-square-foot facility also will include an indoor pool and a fitness center. In addition, the building will house approximately 1,600 square feet of retail space, possibly a day spa, according to Jeff Rountree, CEO of the UMW Foundation and President, Eagle Property Holdings, LLC. Sweet Frog Frozen-Yogurt Chain to Locate in Eagle Village

The University of Mary Washington Foundation has announced that Sweet Frog, a popular Richmond-based frozen-yogurt chain, will locate in Eagle Village adjacent to the university. A March opening is planned. “We have long wanted to attract this type of business to Eagle Village due to student and faculty feedback that was collected in the early stages of this project,” said Jeff Rountree, CEO of the UMW Foundation and president of Eagle Property Holdings, LLC. “The frozen-yogurt industry has exploded in the past few years with Sweet Frog, in particular, opening over 50 locations in just the past two years.” Raven Williams, senior sales and development manager for Sweet Frog, said the chain selected the Eagle Village location because of its accessibility and inviting atmosphere. “At Sweet Frog, we want to be more than just a dessert place, we want to be a part of the community and we were impressed with the community feel of Eagle Village,” said Williams.
