Support Services

The University of Mary Washington Police Department is a fully certified law enforcement agency by the Commonwealth of Virginia with full arrest authority. The University Police enforce the laws and Codes of Virginia, the City of Fredericksburg Ordinances and enforce Policies and Procedures of the University. University Police is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Support Services are provided by the Department of Public Safety, Community Services and Emergency Management which is comprised of University Police, Emergency Communications Office, Public/Fire Safety and Locksmith Services.

The Emergency Communications Office is the central contact point for The Department of Public Safety and Community Services. The Emergency Communications Office is open 24 hours a day, year round and dispatches University Police, Fire and EMS in cooperation with the City of Fredericksburg’s 911 Call Center. Our emergency communicators are fully trained and certified as emergency communications officers through the Rappahannock Criminal Justice Academy. The emergency communications officers are able to provide immediate communication with the University’s Fire Safety Office, Emergency Management Director, Facilities Services and other departments of the University.

Locksmith Services are responsible for the repair and maintenance of physical locking mechanisms and access control on campus. They work closely with Residence Life, Facilities services and other departments to provide key control and access control of buildings. The Locksmith Office is open Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The entire Police Department and the staff of the Public Safety unit is committed to providing and maintaining safe and secure enviornments on all UMW campuses/properties for every member of the UMW community to include students, staff and faculty as well as to all guests and visitors.
