Safety Escort Service

The Safety Escort Service provides transportation for any University of Mary Washington student or staff member from one point on campus to another. Each employee of the escort service receives training on the operation of a state vehicle, and more detailed training in the use of the handicapped-accessible escort van.

While on-duty, each escort employee has direct radio contact with a (ECO) Emergency Communications Operator, ensuring the safety of the driver, as well as the student. The student escort service operates nightly from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am. During other times, the safety escorts are performed by a UMW Police or Community Service Officer.

To request an escort, contact the University Police by using one of the emergency Blue Light 777 phones on campus, or call at 540-654-4444. Students are encouraged to pre-program this phone number into their cell phones.
